Above is an image which shows another mock up for my music magazine cover. Since the last mock up I realised that I was making my designs too bare. So because of this in the mock up above I have added more features to make it look more; hence making it look more like a music magazine.
Above is image which shows my first mock up of my music magazine cover. I have used my chosen layout whilst inserting a picture of the band known as the arctic monkeys onto it to see the effect. I believe that this cover has positives, yet it also has negatives. One big negative is that it looks empty and at first this may not seem such a problem but, all of the music magazines that I have looked at in the past such as 'NME' are crammed packed of pictures and text; hence why the cover above does not feel like a music magazine and so I feel that this is a real let down by the cover.
However I also think that there are massive positives to take from this cover as well. One effect is how I have put the cover in black and white. The effect of this is that it makes the cover look very vintage meaning that it would be very appealing to my target audience. Another good effect is the use of my slogan and how it just sits underneath my masthead perfectly. The effect of this is that it blends into my masthead meaning that the reader will read them together. I will be looking to improving my cover in future mock ups whilst also taking my positives from this this cover with me.
Above is an image which shows my chosen layout of my music magazine's double page spread. The main point that I had to take into account when designing the layout was how I could link the two pages together making them look like they should be together. I eventually decided to do this by placing a picture which spread across both pages and this ment that they can be merged together. However, after making this decision I then had to decipher where I was to put my text. My final decision on where I was going to put the text was to place it around the picture. This means that hopefully my double page spread will be more eye-catching and appealing because my text and my image are close together; hence grabing the audiences attention. I will be also putting my double page spread to the test when I use it for my mock ups.
Above is an image which shows my chosen layout for my music magazine's contents page. For the contents page, I have chosen to go with a very basic layout. However, basic is not always bad and I can tell this by looking at the contents pages that I have already analyed in my work. The basic layout that I have chosen to go with was by having a main heading at the top of the page and then just spliting the page in half for an even share of text and pictures; hence why it is basic yet effective. I will be putting the layout of my contents page to the test when I begin to practice with it by designing mock ups.
Above is an image which shows the chosen layout of my music magazine. I have chosen to go with placing my masthead at the top of my magazine to make it stand out and show my audience what my music magazine is called. I may be looking to include a slogan with this masthead, but I will be deciphering this in a later stage when I create some mock ups using my layout. I have decided to place my main heading in the middle of the front cover because I believe that this is the best place to catch the audiences attention; hence they will look at the picture which is placed across the middle of the cover and is eye-catching. Finally I will be including smaller pictures at the bottom of my cover which may a small amount of text with them. These pictures are there to represent smaller stories which correspond with my main picture.
